Renewal Notes

Permits expire annually on April 30. Renewal applications must be filed with the NC ABC Commission at least 60 days before expiration. North Carolina is a control state — distilled spirits are sold through local ABC stores.

Server Certification

Required — Responsible Alcohol Seller/Server Training — required for permit holders. Completion of an NC ABC Commission-approved program is mandatory.

Penalty for Lapsed License

Operating without a valid permit is a Class 1 misdemeanor with fines at the court's discretion and up to 120 days imprisonment. The NC ABC may also impose civil penalties up to $5,000.
